Recently, scholars working within PaSTIS Reaseach Unit, have done work within Science and Technology Studies International Theoretical and Empirical Frames. Including the following projects:
1) Science and Technology Representations in Television.
At the end of 2006 PaSTIS Research Unit began work focused on the study of media iconography, images, and preconceptions through which science and technology are presented on television. Looking at the way television represents technology and science, the in progress study will document 7 national Italian television channels and build a quantitative and qualitative analysis.
2) Multidimensional Approach to Technology Transfer.
Since 2007, scholars from the Research Unit, in collaboration with SINCROTRONE TRIESTE S.C.P.A., are conducting analysis of technology transfer between public research and private companies working with nanotechnologiy in the Veneto Region.
3)Social Representations of Nanotechnology.
The project is focused on investigating the public perceptions of nanotechnology. This field of research has not attracted the attention of the public or become controversial. By conducting 12 focus groups in the region, and a national survey aimed at determining and analyzing the public perception of nanotechnology, we intend to better understand this new field.
4) Science: How it is Done? And who is doing it?
In collaboration with the National Institute of Astrophysics and the Lab for Planetarium Didactics of Bologna, PaSTIS Research Unit is conducting a study focused on how younger generations perceive the field of science. The study is being realized through the efforts of teachers and students, from 72 classes of primary and junior high schools across Italy.
