FUTURE EMERGING TECHNOLOGY IN NEUROSCIENCE ETHICS AND SOCIAL IMPLICATION RELATED TO SYNCH PROJECT
“Future Emerging Technology in Neuroscience: ethics and social implication” is the title of the workshop organized by the PaSTIS research Unit of the Fisppa and by the Biomedical Science department of the University of Padova as part of the European project SYNCH (Horizon 2020), a multidisciplinary research project coordinated by Stefano Vassanelli that aims – scientific and technological – to create a hybrid system in which a neural network in the brain of a living animal (BNN) and a silicon neural network of neurons made on a chip (SNN) are interconnected by neuromorphic synapses, thus enabling co-evolution of connectivity and co-processing of information by the two networks.
The technology represents an important step toward the realization of artificial intelligence-based neuroprostheses.
Synch Project represents an invaluable ‘case-study’ and an opportunity also to investigate social and ethical implications of technologies based on interaction between brain and artificial intelligence. The purpose is to promote a debate involving scientists, technology stakeholders, patients of neurological disorders and their families on possible future Brain-AI interaction scenarios, thereby helping to frame a ‘responsible research and innovation’ approach for applications of artificial neural networks in bioengineering, robotics and healthcare.
The workshop takes place all day April 20 at Barco Teatro, Via Orto Botanico 12 Padova.
Admission is free of charge; registration is recommended here:
